Luke Smythe focuses on Richter's early photo paintings. He discusses the connection between Richter's relocation to West Germany and the development of the characteristic blurring technique in his paintings.
Having graduated from Auckland University in 1999, Luke Smythe is currently a PhD candidate at Yale University. His dissertation in progress focuses on abstraction in Gerhard Richter's art.
