Der Westen leuchtet – The Luminous West was the catalogue published to coincide with the eponymous group exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bonn in 2010.
From the mid-20th century the Rhineland and North-Rhine Westphalia have played a decisive role for contemporary art in West Germany. The exhibition Der Westen leuchtet – The Luminous West takes into account this significant history and this catalogue highlights the significance of the region for contemporary art by showing individual artistic positions rather than emphasising artistic similarities.
Artists of an older generation such as Bernd and Hilla Becher, Joseph Beuys, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter and Rosemarie Trockel are juxtaposed with younger artists and were responsible for selecting those.
